Processing Health Episodes
How NOT to have an enjoyable dinner out with friends.
Have you experienced this?
Often, when we connect with other retired couples and ask, “What’s new?”, the conversation transforms into a shared space where each person recounts their recent health challenges. Procedures, illnesses, fears, and frustrations are all shared. What was intended to be a joyful meal becomes a kind of workshop.
In my view, this venting phenomenon highlights our need for emotional processing. Yet, few of us are skilled at “holding space” for this need, especially in a restaurant setting.
Many of us, myself included, unconsciously react by changing the subject, sharing our own health stories, or jumping in to offer solutions to alleviate ongoing suffering.
Now, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we experienced fewer fears and frustrations related to managing our health?
Wouldn’t it be great if we didn’t have recent health scares to discuss?
Wouldn’t it be amazing to process our health episodes with skilled support?
Are you ready to guide yourself, and those you love, away from suffering?
